Course Detail

Short or long distance

Powered pallet trucks come in either rider or pedestrian versions. The rider version, often known as PPT (rider) is an electric low-level lifting and moving machine.

PPT’s function is to move palletised stock at low-level from A to B. Whether that is loading and unloading lorries or just distributing pallets around the warehouse. They are very manoeuvrable and able to carry loads over a long distance.

The operator stands on a small platform at the back and controls the speed and direction from a tiler.

They are powered by electricity with batteries; some require a separate charger cabinet while others can just be plugged into a 13amp socket and charged from there.

What does the pallet truck training

course cover?

All our PPT training courses contain theory lessons in a classroom and practical work using the Pedestrian/rider powered pallet truck. These courses follow the Health and Safety commission’s Approved Code of Practice and guidance. Meaning you, as an employer, meet your legal obligations to make sure all PPT operators receive adequate training.

We understand that everyone prefers a different learning style. Therefore, our courses use a variety of techniques to suit all learners. We use forklift models, videos, powerpoints, worksheets and handouts to keep everyone interested. Each lesson is then finished with some questions to ensure all information is understood.

The theory work builds gradually allowing time to absorb the information, before moving to the next stage. Practical lessons are demonstrated, then trainees are given adequate time to practise under close supervision.

Each course culminates with three stages of testing:

  • A theory test – consisting of 25 questions
  • Pre-use inspection test
  • Practical skills test involving various manoeuvres completed in a safe manner

On completion of the pallet truck training course, the trainee will be able to:

Name all the main components of the truck

Carry out a Pre-shift inspection check & know when and how to report

Operate the Truck within the safety limits defined by the manufacturer

Stack & De-stack from various various loads safely

Manoeuvre with and without load in a narrow confined area

Accrediting Body ITSSAR/AITT

This course is for operators with little or no previous experience using A1/A5 Pedestrian course complies with the standards set in accordance with the HSE Code of Practice. This also enables successful operators to use any A1/A5 Pedestrian (with authorisation) anywhere in the UK.

This course is designed for the Operator who has had extensive practical experience, (longer than 12 months) but has never been formally trained or held certification.

Keep your skills up to date. To refresh job safety knowledge, and give corrective remedial and tests to truck operators who though previously trained and certificated may require a short safety refresher course, to maintain the correct standards of operation at an acceptable level.
