Course Structure
Rough terrain masted forklift trucks provide greater ground clearance then a standard lift truck and are used on uneven ground, commonly within the land-based and construction industry.
Our forklift training course is for anyone who uses or will be using a rough terrain mastered lift truck (pallet and bulk) in either the land-based or construction industry. The course will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge required giving you the confidence to operate it safely.

- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
- PUWER 98 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 98)
- LOLER 98 (Lifting Operations and Lift Equipment Regulations 98)
- HSG6 – Safety in working with lift trucks
- L117 – Rider-operated lift trucks (ACOP & Guidance)
- Lifting Principals
- Care of diesel trucks and refuelling procedures
- Stability factors
- Principals of operation on rough terrains
- Steering operations – forward & reverse
- Steering operations in confined areas
- Pallet handling; picking up, setting down, transporting
- Stacking and destacking loads at different heights (Various methods)
- Vehicle loading & un-loading procedures
- Daily maintenance checks
- Satisfactory completion of Practical and Theory based assessment
On completion of the rough terrain masted J1 forklift training course, the trainee will be able to:
Name all the main components of the truck
Carry out a Pre-shift inspection check & know when and how to report
Operate the Truck within the safety limits defined by the manufacturer
Stack & De-stack from various heights with various loads safely
Manoeuvre a laden truck in a narrow confined area
Accrediting Body ITSSAR/AITT
This course is for operators with little or no previous experience using a J1 Rough Terrain Masted course complies with the standards set in accordance with the HSE Code of Practice. This also enables successful operators to use any J1 Rough Terrain Masted (with authorisation) anywhere in the UK.
This course is designed for the Operator who has had extensive practical experience, (longer than 12 months) but has never been formally trained or held certification.
Keep your skills up to date. To refresh job safety knowledge, and give corrective remedial and tests to truck operators who though previously trained and certificated may require a short safety refresher course, to maintain the correct standards of operation at an acceptable level.
