Experienced workers with over 2 years recent experience working with loading shovels may apply for an Experienced Worker course (typically 2 days), If you are already certificated and require refresher training it will be one day or if you do not fit into these category’s, then you will need to take a Novice Loading Shovel training course instead.
Training courses in this category will provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of operating the loading shovel, including practical and theoretical knowledge. The aim is to ensure candidates can carry out their role in a competent, safe manner after passing both the theory and practical tests.
This loading course also includes elements of maintenance to ensure the loading shovel is always operating correctly.
Course Content
- Pre-start, running and shut down checks/procedures, including mount and dismount
- Preparing and configuring the machine for travel, both on site and on the road
- Load integrity, security and maintenance, including how to place the machine in an out of service condition
- Travel over a range of terrains
- Excavations/Extractions of differing types of materials from stockpiles and other sources
- Loading/unloading procedures for machine transportation.

On completion of the loading shovel training course, the trainee will be able to
Name all the main components of the truck
Carry out a Pre-shift inspection check & know when and how to report
Operate the Truck within the safety limits defined by the manufacturer
Stack & De-stack from various heights with various loads safely
Manoeuvre a laden truck in a narrow confined area
Accrediting Body ITSSAR/AITT
This course is for operators with little or no previous experience using a Loading Shovel course complies with the standards set in accordance with the HSE Code of Practice. This also enables successful operators to use any Loading Shovel (with authorisation) anywhere in the UK.
This course is designed for the Operator who has had extensive practical experience, (longer than 12 months) but has never been formally trained or held certification.
Keep your skills up to date. To refresh job safety knowledge, and give corrective remedial and tests to truck operators who though previously trained and certificated may require a short safety refresher course, to maintain the correct standards of operation at an acceptable level.
