Course Structure
Experienced Worker course (typically 2 days), If you are already
certificated and require refresher training it will be one day or if you
do not fit into these category’s, then you will need to take a Novice
Loading Shovel course instead.
Remember that reversing vehicles on a site is a major cause of workplace accidents and can lead to serious and at times fatal injuries. Yard shunter drivers should be trained in all safe working practices to minimise the risk of potentially costly and life-threatening accidents.
The course is predominantly Practical training with some theory and both theory and practical tests at the end. The course is aimed at ensuring you have the relevant skills and knowledge required to carry out workplace duties to the highest and safest standard.
What does the Yard Shunter training course cover
Understanding the company’s safety procedure in relation to vehicles on site
Employees legal duties regarding Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
Areas of danger for reversing vehicles on the site
Understanding the vehicle and trailer controls
Manoeuvring and reversing movements
Correct coupling and un-coupling of trailers
The safe passage of vehicles withing a confined space
Identification of dangers within the company site
Eligibility
All Drivers attending this course must be at least 18 years old and have held a full driving licence for at least 12 months
On completion of the Yard Shunter training course, the trainee will be able to:
Name all the main components of the truck
Carry out a pre-shift inspection check & know when and how to report
Operate the truck within the safety limits defined by the manufacturer
Manoeuvre the vehicle safely as well as couple and uncouple trailers and use attachments.
Accrediting Body ITSSAR/AITT
This course is for operators with little or no previous experience using a Yard Shunter course complies with the standards set in accordance with the HSE Code of Practice. This also enables successful operators to use any Yard Shunter (with authorisation) anywhere in the UK.
This course is designed for the Operator who has had extensive practical experience, (longer than 12 months) but has never been formally trained or held certification.
Keep your skills up to date. To refresh job safety knowledge, and give corrective remedial and tests to truck operators who though previously trained and certificated may require a short safety refresher course, to maintain the correct standards of operation at an acceptable level.
